Research Paper Reflection

Creating my research paper couldn’t have been more fun and challenging than it was, when we started this entire assignment, I had immediately thought of my best friend and the unfortunate diagnosis of MOGAD he has, I wanted to bring some more light into his condition as well as come to understand it myself and with his permission I sought that exactly. After the literature review, I was already certain on trying to interview him on a personal basis to even more accurately tie the facts to a real life presentation. I believe my formatting of telling his story while also divulging the factoids and opinions that exist around the whole topic of MOGAD was the best part of my paper, I like to think of it as a ‘knowledge sandwich’ with different layers all unified once stacked together becoming one sole unit. That was the fun part, arguing on behalf of current MOGAD research in respect to my friend’s experience became the challenging part. I say this because MOGAD research is so extremely vast that current research only seems to have touched the surface of the autoimmune disorder. Current standardizations were too bleak and overall could only half conclude on the case studies I was sourcing from, it seemed like there was still a huge gap of information that I could tie into my friend’s case; and that’s when I remembered that his case itself was ‘rare’ and new to specialists themselves. From this I knew that I needed to point out this gap of knowledge that has scientists stumped with these ‘uncommon’ variants, proving to me that only certain characteristics are considered and thought to be the undeniable antecedents for MOGAD phenotypes. Thus, I created the argument that MOGAD standards require constant updated reevaluation (which they do) because I truly believe that what might be hiding from scientists from eliminating the disease as a whole is in plain sight, and that would prolong my best friend’s life in the best way possible.
